Understanding the ISDS – (Inmate Skills Development System)
The ISDS is now used nationwide by the FBOP to assess your skills in nine essential areas, and they are: Academics, Vocational Career, Interpersonal, Wellness, Mental Health, Cognitive, Character, Leisure, and Daily Living. It’s to your benefit that you take the initial consultation seriously and then follow up with your Unit Team during each bi-annual interview to ensure that they’re making the right recommendations for the future you envision for yourself. Staff members from Education, Religious Services, Psychology, and Health Services are required to make recommendations prior to each ISDS review and you will then be expected to satisfy those suggestions before your next team meeting. Realize that it is YOUR responsibility to know what recommendations have been made so be sure to ask your Case Manager or Counselor for a copy of your latest ISDS assessment and TAKE THE TIME TO REVIEW IT. You have an opportunity to positively shape your future so take advantage of it…it’s YOUR responsibility to get involved.
